Baggage

To simplify your airport visit, take your time and pack your baggage carefully. To travel worry-free, do not forget to attach baggage tags with your name and address.

Airlines travel rules

Know your airline’s baggage policy before you check in. Most companies allow you to travel with a cabin bag and to check others into the hold. However, the weight and number of pieces allowed in the hold or cabin may vary depending on the airline, class and flight.

If your baggage is larger or heavier than rules allow, you may be required to pay additional fees at the airport.

Check your company’s travel rules now:

Hold baggage

Most baggage is carried in the plane’s hold. There may be an additional fee, depending on the airline or the class you are traveling in.

Rules on prohibited or regulated objects on board apply to all air transportation. In the hold, liquids, cosmetics, aerosols and sharp or blunt objects are allowed. Other objects are prohibited from the hold:

  • explosives;
  • flammable liquids, solids or gases;
  • organic oxidants and peroxides;
  • toxic or infectious substances;
  • corrosive substances;
  • lithium batteries.

Since June 2015, it is also forbidden to transport electronic cigarettes in the hold. They remain authorized in the cabin.

For further information, please go to the Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) website.

Cabin baggage

Generally, all passengers may bring one piece of baggage into the cabin, except children under 2. As the authorized size and weight for this hand baggage varies between companies, be sure to check directly with your airline.

A word of advice: some airlines consider handbags to be cabin baggage.

To transport liquids (drinks, perfume, lotions…), cosmetics (creams, gels, makeup…) or aerosols (deodorant, hairspray…) in your hand baggage, don’t forget the following rules:

  • they must be in tubes or bottles of less than 100 ml;
  • they must be carried in a transparent, zip-top plastic bag (one bag per person, maximum size 20 x 20 cm).

Some objects pose health or safety risks for you and others, and are prohibited in hand baggage:

  • all sharp or cutting objects: pocket knives, manicure tools (scissors, files…);
  • defensive sprays of all sizes;
  • more generally, all objects which may be used as a weapon, may burn or may implode;
  • syringes are not allowed in the cabin unless you have a medical indication: inform airline personnel at check-in.

However, the following items are authorized in amounts corresponding to the length of the flight:

  • food for babies or very young children;
  • medicine (including liquids, gels, lotions or cream) which is indispensable during the flight, upon presentation of a prescription;
  • insulin for diabetic passengers, upon mandatory presentation of a prescription;
  • liquids purchased at the airport (duty free) upon presentation of a receipt, within quantities restricted by customs).

For further information, check the DGAC website.
